Al has been asking for pets for ages - he really would like either a cat or lizards or a snake after being very impressed by each at various friends' houses. Mummy can't really face the extra effort any of these would bring so instead we have settled for a rather more short-term solution ... caterpillars! Here are the little beauties ... we got them on 25th March and now 10 days later they are really big and fat so hopefully we'll have cocoons soon. Will post more pics as things develop ...

Daddy's birthday
We started Daddy's birthday with a birthday cake ... not a flat one we made ourselves this year but a tiny little bought one. He seemed to appreciate that we didn't put the full number of candles on it though.
He had lots of lovely presents - some with a coffee theme ... including a nice stove top coffee maker and some little coffee cups and saucers.
Another first here ... we all went out to celebrate Daddy's birthday instead of just Mummy and Daddy going out in the evening. We made the most of the fact that we've brainwashed the children into liking curry and hit the Slap Up Tandoori up the road from us.

Babies, babies everywhere

Annie is pretty keen on babies. Here she is with Dillan, Aralia's little brother.
And another of her favourite babies ... Daniel, Thomas' little brother. Ok so she looks a bit disinterested in this photo but we didn't manage to get one of the day she sat and cuddled him for about 20 minutes then wailed when she had to give him back to his real mummy.
Finally one of Annie and her anatomically correct baby boy dolly ... sitting it on the loo which of course is what all good mummies do with their babies. Note loo roll in hand just in case baby produces anything.

First cinema trip

Lots of anticipation in the run-up to this morning. Not only was it the first trip to the cinema for the little people, but they also had popcorn in their own individual little trays. And on top of that ... it was the Wiggles on the big screen! We took Thomas along too and the 3 children (not to mention mummy and daddy) had a bit of a boogie.

After the cinema we went for lunch just across the way and 3 happy children tucked into pizza and pasta followed by ice-cream and jelly.
A good day was had by all!

Both Al and Annie enjoy cooking ... here we are washing the mushrooms for Mushroom Balti. It took about 20 minutes to wash a bit of mud off but both children loved the job and were really happy s
plashing about. Of course the other great thing about mushrooms is that they can break them up for the balti without even using a knife. While they are busy doing this I get chance to chop the onions unhindered ...

New Year's Day Curry

We had a treat today - curry takeaway ... and for the first time we had it all together instead of waiting til the children had gone to bed! So this is Al and Annie having their first takeaway curry and tucking in enthusiastically. Thank goodness for that ... I remember Clive when I was pregnant with Al worrying about what we would do if we had children who didn't like curry :-)

An independent woman
She also loves anything pink and sparkly. Here she is wearing her best bling... with the odd remaining chicken pox spot.

Family Christmas 2009
We've had a busy Christmas with all the Grand-parents down ... Big Nanny, Grandma and Grandad, and Gran (aka My Dear).
Everyone had lots of lovely presents. I think Annie's highlights were baby Stella Peach (just visible on her high chair tray) and her toy washing machine. Al loved his big boy bike, his little DVD player and his small lego. No gender stereotyping there then!
Here's Al opening his bike which Father Christmas hid under the dining table after somehow squeezing it down the chimney. He's really good on it and loves whizzing around, especially with Daddy.

Here's Al and Annie watching a DVD on one of their little machines.

Annie didn't get a new bike but won't let herself be left out so we recycled Al's toddler bike and helmet ... she was as pleased as punch!

The run-up to Christmas
Advent was full of Christmas parties and preparations ... including time spent by Al working out which fireplace Father Christmas would be able to come down, and what to do about the fact that the dining room fireplace is the biggest but has toy cupboards in front if it. We agreed that on Christmas Eve we would pull the cupboards into the middle of the room to make way for the old man.
We all decorated the tree, which meant it ended up looking quite, um, interesting. I rather tastefully added some red and some gold strings of beads, which clearly inspired Annie because she then found a pile of the costume jewellry Gran gave her recently and added extra strings of beads ... some white, some green, some black ... clearly she got the idea that one hangs beads on this strange tree for some reason. The end result was slightly less designer than I initially had in mind but I didn't have the heart to remove Annie's contribution.

There was also a fair bit of dressing up which both children love. Annie's upset in the snowman costume was because I'd told her it was time to take the suit off, not because I'd made her wear it in the first place! There's a lovely video clip of Al wearing the same suit singing "I'm a little snowman" rather beautifully so if I ever work out how to include video in here I'll stick it in.

And this is Al and Annie getting dressed up ready to go to the New Life Church Christmas service where Al was a shepherd. Annie would have been an angel (what else?!) but had to give up the role as she was a Spotty Dotty and came down with the chicken pox a couple of days before. Actually I wonder how many of the toddlers of our village she shared this with ... we spotted the first spot a few hours after she had been getting on down at the local toddler Christmas party.
Al had a ball being a shepherd and getting chance to shine up on the stage in front of everyone at church. The week before at Messy Praise at our village church there'd been another chance to dress up and do the Nativity. That time Al was a wise man (did we ever doubt it? He's been sharing his wisdom with us since he could first talk) and Annie was a rather cute little sheep.

Frolicking in the snow
Snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow ...
A subject that divided the Petry household ... Al and Daddy loved it and got busy building and throwing and rolling ... Mummy and Annie were not so keen!
Couple more happy Al pictures to make up for the not-so-happy Annie one! Including Al and the smallest snowman in Milton ...

Proud Al and Daddy moment

Since the moment we knew we were having a baby (and probably many years before, actually) Clive has been looking forward to taking his children to see Bristol Rovers. First step along the way was Daddy and Al going to see Histon United, the local team of the next village, who are surprisingly good for a village team, and even made it to round 3 or something of the FA cup last year. So here are the boys ... hard to see who is the most excited!
And the match? Goal-less draw so not the most exciting for a young lad but he got a Histon cap and a bag of chips so he was happy ...

Southend
Al picked a fishy bucket with a green spade (what other colour is there? Green has always been his favourite).
Annie may look frozen, but she was definitely happy to be out and about in the fresh air.
